  • Condition: The fingerboard is sold AS IS. Newer frets show a bit of wear in the 1st position but overall very good. No cracks in fingerboard. Binding is loose but none is missing. It is cracked near the fingerboard extension.

    Description

    From an old repairman’s pile of projects comes this Vintage Gibson A-4 Style mandolin fingerboard, ca. 1924.
    The backstory of this is we got a Gibson A-4 mandolin from a man who had a repair shop. He said he got the mandolin from Norman Blake but he did not like the way it played
    because it did
    not intonate right. First he
    refretted
    the fingerboard but he still wasn’t happy with the
    intonation
    so he replaced the fingerboard. When we bought the mandolin from him, it included the original fingerboard and we have had it for many years.
    We have no confirmation that it actually
    belonged
    to Norman Blake other than the
    repairman’s
    story.
